Engineers work to make our lives better by finding solutions to problems in our everyday life. When one thinks of an "engineer", he/she probably thinks of someone who designs things such as buildings, road systems, bridges, and dams. Each of these is an example of what a civil engineer might do. However, civil engineers do so much more than that! They may work to find solutions for highway congestion, design underwater tunnels to connect areas of land, monitor air pollution, design earthquake/hurricane/tornado safe structures, and high speed transportation systems. However, civil engineering is not limited to just these type of jobs. As a civil engineer, one might design skateboard parks that provide the best type of "trick obstacles", heating systems for swimming pools, roller coaster structures, tennis court surfaces that reduce injury, and a bowling alley. As you can see, civil engineering has a wide variety of jobs that focuses on making life better for people.
