Just like the name implies, chemical engineering focuses on "chemicals". Almost everything our "senses" (taste, smell, see, feel, hear) enjoy are made up of chemicals in some way or another. Think of chewing gum...chemicals are combined to create a sweet or sour candy that allows one to blow bubbles. It is virtually impossible to think of something that doesn't have "chemicals" in its make-up. Chemical Engineers may also work with chemicals to design cleaner, more efficient fuels to power cars, pool chemicals that keep the water cleaner and free of bacteria, environmentally safer pesticides for plants, shoe soles that provide more grip or friction, football equipment that is more comfortable and able to withstand greater impacts, and fishing equipment that is stronger allowing the fisherman to catch larger fish. From disease fighting drugs, everyday foods, to baby diapers and artificial organs, chemical engineers design or provide solutions that allow our "senses" to enjoy life.
